WAR, the nonsense without winners
One day, an anti-war song
The song I have chosen is “One day”. The genre of this song is reggae fusion and hip-hop. It is a song written by the American reggae Singer Matisyahu. He wrote and recorded the song between September and October 2007, but the song wasn’t released until April 29th, 2008.
He had always wanted to write this type of song since he started his career. In an interview, he said it was an anthem of hope with a big beat, the type of song that gets stuck in your head and gets into your heart. It is an anti-war song, a protest against all the fights and violence. In his song, Matisyahu compares a society with war and a society without it. He talks about how the world would be if people were not fighting all the time: there would be freedom, safety and peace. He also talks about the nonsense of fighting because there are no positive consequences of war, there are no real winners.
In the song he addresses the listener directly to make us feel closer to him and to what he is saying. I chose this song because, apart from the rhythm, I love the meaning of the lyrics. He is trying to send a message to everyone to stop the wars, to end the violence, and I think it’s a very necessary and beautiful message.
